Logs as raw material of sawmilling industry in East Java are provided by Forest District Administration of Perum Perhutani. Every year Perum Perhutani makes a plan to distribute the raw material for sawmilling industry. Perum Perhutani, in particular Unit Two East Java, has been striving for improving the raw material supplies throught the improvement of quality of teak logs continuity of supply. In determining the distribution pattem of raw materials from forest districts to individual sawmill transportation cost should be one of deciding factors. The aim of this investegation is to find the distribution pattern of transporting the logs from forest districts to individual sawmill so as to minimize the total transportation cost. The results of the investigation are :1.Jatirogo sawmill is the largest supplier of logs while Gresik is the smallest. 2.The minimum total cost of transporting the raw material is Rp 229.314.150,-.

The success of taungya depends on several factors, i.e. site quality, social and economic condition of peasants. This report was made as the result of taungya survey in Bojonegoro Forest District, East Java. The influence of several factors were estimated by the multiple regression equation. The effect of site quality variable is significant, and the effects of technology and family man power variables are highly significant, but the levels of education, labor cost, and peasant location do not significantly influence peasants' income from taungya. The growth of basal trees area is influenced by technology and production facility cost variables in highly significant level. This occurence showed that applying "Inmas" policy on taungya could increased peasants income, and give positive effect on basal trees growth. As the site quality played highly significant role on taungya success, it is necessary to applydifferent policy to each location with different site quality.

The development of domestic market of plywood relies heavily on the effective demand for plywood or buying power in real sense. This research is aimed at studying the pattern of relation ship between the consumption of plywod by household in Central Java and East Java and some factors influencing it.The average volume of plywood annually consumed by household is of 0.0152 m3 per year per family (with average of 3. 6 persons/family). The variables that influence the effective demand of plywood are family income, price of plywood and the number of family member. The elasticity of the demand of the three factors is of 0.3365 implying that the consumption of plywood is inelastic to the change of the three factors.

A study on productivity and operating cost of Isuzu TWD 20 (1979 model) trucks has been carried .,out at two forest companies in West Sumatra. The result shows that : 1. The average hauling productivity at PT Ragusa Ltd and PT Pasar Besar is 113 m3 km/hour and 211 m km/hour,respectively.2. The average operating cost at PT Ragusa Ltd and Pasar Besar is respectiuely Rp. 93,-/m3 km and Rp. 57, /m3 km.

Sago starch contains about 84. 7% carbohydrate. Further analysis of the carbohydrate indicate that about 73% consist of amylopectin (the branched polymers) and 27% amylase (the linear polymers). These components are potentially contributing to the production of sago-dextrin. The purpose of this research is to analyse the physico-chemical properties of the laboratory made sago-dextrin and the properties of the commercial one, to compare with the Indonesian Industrial Standard requirements for dextrin. The results indicated that the ash content and acidity, of both the experimental and the commercial sago dextrins have met the Indonesian Industrial Standard. The solubility in cold water, dextrose content of the commercial dextrin, and the moisture content of the experimental one have not met the Indonesian Industrial Standard. Higher yield can be obtained by using acid concentration below 0.05 M as catalyst and or hydrolyzing time under 5 minutes during the dextrin making process.

Pinus merkusii or locally known as Tusam, is one of the plantation species extensively cultiuated in the uarious part of Indonesia. The uses of its wood uary from chopstick and ice cream spoon to some construction item such as trans- mission pole, and a possible use of its wood for cooling tower is still being studied. The paper describes study result of the effect of tree age and position within tree on some physical properties (Specific grauity, moisture content, uolumetric shrinkage and fiber saturation point). The results were computed using the nested or hierarchical classification analysis, and the differences between means tested using Tukey's w procedure. The results shows that the tree age effect significantly the green and air-dry specific gravity, The other properties do not seem to be affected. Between tree differences affect significantly the air-dry moisture content only. Height within tree does affect uery significantly the uolumetric shrinkage from green to ouen dry condition; and from air-dry to ouen dry condition. The ouerall mean and standard deviation ualues for each property had been calculated and the result presented.

The study was carried out at Cibadak, Padalarang and Pacet which have soil types of Renzina, litosol and brown forest soil complex; Brown mediteran complex and Brown Andosol and brown regosol association, respectively. It is found that the first soil type has the highest subterranean termites density as well as house damages.Subterranean termites species found at the whole locations are Macrotermes gilvus (Hagen) and Microtermes insperatus Kemner.

Aren tree is one of the members of palm family. The distribution extends in all Indonesian area. The main produc- tion of aren juice for material of sugar, are aren fruits for food, fiber mode for plait material handcraft, and numeroua utilization. The study of aren trees in Cianjur Concludes :1.The aren trees are found in all districts. 2.The study in a sub district of Cianjur reveals that :a.Cibinong is one of the biggest sub district where aren stands were found.b.Total production of brown sugar in 1986 in this sub district was 549 tons with 831 farmers. Average sugar pro- duction ammounts to 0.661 ton/farmer.c.Average input in aren busines is 2.12 hours/day/house hold.d.The small holder of the aren starch production having capacity of 72 tons/year requires total investment of Rp 1,505,000.- and production cost: Rp 11,140,000.-/year giving the financial earning of Rp 7,500,000.-

A case study on the behavioral responses of ambrosia beetles to some pesticidal formulations was carried out at a logging area in West Kalimantan in 1981. Each pesticide formulation was sprayed to debarked logs of fresh1% felled ramin trees (Gonystylus bancanus Kurz.}. The tested logs were, then, allowed for the beetle infestations for four weeks, and inspections were conducted weekly to count the beetle tunnels. A lower intensity of the beetle infestation on the treated logs than those on the controls was considered as an inhibitory response. in contrast, a higher intensity of the infestation on the treated logs was indicatively caused by a stimulatory response. These following conclusions are drawn from this study: 1. A highly inhibitory response on the ambrosia beetle attacks was shown by treatments with pesticide containing 50% cypermethrin or 50% fenithrotion.2. Ramin logs treated with pesticide containing either 30% TCMTB or a mixture of 90% thiourea + 10% quarternary ammonium + 0.1 % diazenium dioxy seemed to be highly stimulating to the beetles. The stimulating effect of the second formulation initially decreased and lost afterwards if the diazenium dioxy component was increased by 0.1 to 0.2%. A doubtful record was shown if the TCMTB was mixed with 2% borax.3. The pesticide containing 5% Cu-8-oxyquinolinolate and 80% dichlofluanid were also unaffected to the beetle responses

Gross and anatomical features of nineteen wood species from Sulawesi belonging to 15 genera and 11 family were observed, described and then compared for identification. A dichotomous key for identification were also consructed.Upright cells with pointed end were discovered in the xylary ray tissue of Koordersiodendron pinnatum Merr. This feature were never observed in any other wood species. The occurence of crystals in parenchyma of Palaquium proved not to be constant, so it should be used for identification of the genus in positive sense only.
